Section 01

What Are Cookies & Browser Storage Technologies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your terminal device, tablet, or PC when you log into a web service. In addition to HTTP cookies, modern POS platforms like TILLR utilize:

Session Cookies: Temporary tokens that exist only while your browser tab or POS window remains open. They are destroyed automatically once cashiers log out.
Persistent Cookies: Stored on your device for a designated lifespan to remember your terminal ID, sound preferences, and default retail branch between work shifts.
Local Storage & IndexedDB: Client-side storage partitions that securely hold offline shopping cart lines and barcode catalogs to ensure instant sub-second barcode ringing.
Section 02

Why TILLR Requires Cookies & Storage

Without these fundamental technologies, a cloud-enabled POS system cannot function reliably:

  • lock Shift Authentication: Maintaining cashier PIN authentication so staff members aren't forced to re-type PIN numbers for every single item scanned.
  • shield Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) Prevention: Unique cryptographic tokens are validated with every API request to protect store balances against malicious attacks.
  • point_of_sale Cart State Preservation: If a customer steps away to pick up an extra item, their ringing cart remains safely preserved on the terminal.
